Links to Internet job sites plus many more useful links to aid your job search
As I live in Australia, I apologise to any one accessing this site from overseas who does not
have the chance to work here. Below are some essential links to kickstart your job search.
SEEK
Arguably Australia's premier Internet job site, and so successful that it's now a public company.
I recommend establishing an account and setting up job alerts. You'll find that sites such as Seek sometimes change
their home page which can be very annoying.
MyCareer
Owned by the Fairfax newspaper group which is why you'll see links to The Age and the Sydney Morning
Herald. Look for the link to Job Alerts and there's a very useful feature called Salary Centre enabling you
to access salary information for your type of role.
CareerOne
Owned by News Limited (Rupert Murdoch) and a well structured site where you can do all the usual things. I've always
found Kate Southam's column useful.
JobSearch
If you've ever been unemployed, signed up with CentreLink, and been referred to a Job Network agency,
then you'll be familiar with this site. Generally speaking, most of the advertised jobs are at the
bottom end of the scale, but well worth setting up alerts if this is your sector.
LinkMe
Remember (Geoff) Morgan & (Andrew) Banks? I was once interviewed by Banks but I didn't match their typical profile
for a recruiter (young salesperson!!). They sold their firm to TMP who later sold out to Hudson. Morgan & Banks are still
around, having established another recruitment firm called Talent2, and this entity, LinkMe, where you can lodge your
résumé so that it can be accessed by potential employers. You can also receive alerts. There's no need to worry
about confidentiality but make sure you read the instructions to reassure yourself.
